It’s that time of year again – Kennel Cough (Canine Infectious Tracheobronchitis)
How is KC Spread?
Direct contact or aerosol spread are the most common routes of infection.
How will I know my dog has KC?
Clinical signs develop 3-5 days after exposure. Signs are often mild and self limiting. Affected dogs usually have a dry hacking cough which is likely to be exacerbated on exercise or excitement. Sometimes sneezing, serous nasal discharge and lymphadenopathy are present.
How long does it last?
The clinical signs typically persist from 2-3 days to 2-3 weeks. Can be infectious for a further 2-3 weeks.
Please, Please, Please could you keep your dogs out of daycare if you suspect any of the symptoms above. We will cancel any booking where we suspect your dog may have KC. Once symptom free please keep away for a further 14 days to reduce the spread.
If you’ve got any questions or concerns, please contact your Vet practice.
